Tribal Wannabe

I've yet to find a tribal piece of clothing that fits and/or I've liked enough.  Yet, I'm loving the tribal print trend and look, so I'll keep trying.  In the meantime, I tried to channel a bit of tribal feel while colorblocking.

Ok, so maybe just the necklace and sandals are a bit tribal?  Oh and see how the baby is growing?!  Ooo wee!  And boy is he a mover.  Love it!

Friendship Bracelet Swap

I've participated in several blogger swaps before and have met other great people and new blogs to read in doing so.  It's a great way to get a surprise gift in the mail and meet others.  So I hope you all will each join me in my first blogger swap event.

I personally have been LOVING the friendship bracelet trend.  It's such a fun thing to do with your hands (if you are up to making one) or great pop of color to layer on your wrist (while inexpensive to purchase).  I thought for my first blogger swap, it'd be perfect to do a.... Friendship Bracelet Swap.

I hope you'll each join me!  And it's easy to get on board.  Here are all the details:

1. Interested?  Email me at ChasingDavies(at)gmail(dot)com with the Subject Line: Friendship Bracelet Swap
       - Include your full name, mailing address and blog URL
       - Email me by Friday, 7/22
2. By Wednesday, 7/27 I will email you each your partner and mailing information
3. Get to know your partner via their blog or email and either make or purchase a friendship bracelet to send them
        - To keep it fair, lets try to each provide around a $10 valued bracelet (whether purchased or made)
4. Send out your friendship bracelet to your new friend by Monday 8/8 (or make other arrangements with them)
5. Once you receive your bracelet, you all are encouraged to do a post of your new bracelet, wearing your new accessory or about the the swap, while introducing/linking to your partner's blog.
        - We can all try to do it on or around Thursday, 8/11

It's that perfect size - not too big and bulky, but big enough to hold all my crap.  It's a great nude color - I can wear it with anything...which is good, because I have been.

Inspired Everyday

Inspired daily in lots of different ways...but today, it was Pinterest.  And this outfit that I pretty much copied - except my skirt is shorter and I opted for flats.  When I wear shorter skirts to work, I try not to draw even more attention to that fact and keep the shoes low to the ground. 

I also swung around my new purse all day long.  I love it.  The shape and color reminds me of this adorable Coach purse (no longer available) that my friend, Lulu  has that I love.  But this one was way less, scored from TJ Maxx (Steve Madden).

Minty Pops

My nails match my necklace.  This minty-turquoise color is one of my very favorite colors after all.  I usually always go for a pink or red color on my nails, and this time I ventured out of my box for something more interesting!

Now I can't stop looking at my nails! I love it.  The color is Mermaid Tears by OPI. I recommend it for sure. Or doing anything that might not be your usual.  Puts an extra pep in my step... It's the small things in life I guess!

Making Jewelry w/ Hardware

Before my trip to Minnesota, I made a trip to Hobby Lobby for Friendship bracelet materials...I also hit up Lowe's.  Yes, a hardware store.  I bought a few packages of 20 pieces of hex nuts to make Hex Bracelet DIY bracelets.  The lady working at Lowe's seemed confused when I said I'd just eye ball the size of hex nut I needed...

I originally found this idea through Honestly WTF and pinned it to Pinterest.  I took a few spins of my own to it:  used colored rope, put a clasp on it and kept on braiding to make the bracelet a wrap around.

Here's what you need:

- Rope or twine of some sort... I found these in the crafting store near the jewelry making section
- 18 hex nuts per bracelet...the smaller ones, because they get heavy fast if their too big.  You can eye ball the size you want.
- Clasp of your choice.  I choose the Lobster Claw Clasp since it's bigger and sturdy to support this slightly heavier bracelet.
- Then follow the directions here to create (just braiding in the nuts).

Maybe something fun to do on your day off tomorrow?  A little downtime to recover from all the fireworks going down tonight!  I'm off to a fun filled day of BBQing and fun in the sun.  Enjoy your 4th weekend!

Friendship in Bracelet Form

{2 of the 3 made, the 3rd one wasn't yet complete}

On vacation, two of my friends and I did some DIY bracelet making while relaxing.  It took me back to middle school when I use to spend hours playing with embroidery thread.  Now if only I could get that thread box back for organizing my newly bought threads.

I refreshed my memory on the how-tos of Friendship Bracelet making by reading this  (directions and step by steps) and decided to start with full Chevron pattern.  This pattern is made up of forward knots on one side (making a "4" with your string) and then backward knots of the other side (a backwards "4").  I suggest starting with less colors/strings at first if it's been awhile.

Then with a simple braid at the beginning and the end to complete the bracelet - we decided to upgrade our string bracelets with a clasp.  This way, we can wear it when we want and can avoid frayed string ends from untying and retying, etc.

It's especially fabulous layered with other DIY bracelets... like this hex nut bracelet we made, too.  That post coming soon...

Fashion Obsession

Stripes, stripes and more stripes.  I think to myself, I finally have enough stripes.  And then something new comes out and I HAVE to have it.  Like the Featherknit stripe boatneck tee from J.Crew. Then somehow it ends up in my closet and I'm wearing it the next day... I have no idea how it happened!

I was on the search for a neon over-sized clutch, and while I love the American Apparel ones, I don't love the $50 price tag.  Then Erin tweeted to me that she could make me one and a few days later, I have me a pop of neon yellow with a hot pink zipper & full lining. Love it.

Can you guess where this skirt is from?

This might be my new favorite skirt.  Bright blue, light silk, flowy and A-line.  But I got it somewhere I never thought I would shop.  I got this skirt from Talbots.  I've noticed, mainly from Gigi, over the last year or so that they've really revamped their designs.  They have some really great colors and clothes!

That's Miss Sailor to you!

Fun bun, sailor-esque and little lady bug earrings.  Who can go wrong with all that?

Husband Knows Best

Husband pointed out that all my pinks didn't match in my outfit today.  My shoes were a different color pink than my skirt and necklace different than those, he said.  How cute.

Obviously I meant that to be.  I don't want to be all matchy matchy and thought the coral mixed with the hot pinks were kind of fun.  But hey, at least he noticed what I was wearing.  And you can see sweet husband's reflection in the window taking my picture.

Summer White

Nothing better wearing a light, flowy, white dress on a 95+ degree day.  Well, except for a swimsuit, laying next to a pool.  This will do.  But I thought white was supposed to make you look tanner?  I better get to the pool more this summer.  This girl is as white as the dress she's wearing.
