Guest Bedroom Decor Update

The decorating and designing of my Navy & Orange Guest Room is moving along, just a bit slowly.  But I am at the next phase and wanted to show you where I'm at and what next I'm considering.  Who doesn't like first time home owner's attempt at decorating?

Here's where the room is at.  I'm still loving the navy walls and orange accents.  We've gotten bright white curtains up (from Target) recently, and my Eva rug (from Ballard Design) has founds it's way into my room (and heart).

Next I was looking for a very simple writing desk.  Something like the West Elm Parson's desk, but something pretty cheap, since this will not be a heavily used desk.  I found this one on Amazon, with favorable reviews, currently listed for $70 (but when I purchased it just a few days ago, it was $50!).

This desk will go under the window next to the bed.  It will act as a night stand, a place to escape with my lap top, somewhere to write and think, or anything else that comes up.

So now that the desk is on its way to me,  I need a chair for the room, and I want a cushy and fun chair to pop in the space.  Here I've decided to add a 3rd color to the room's pallet (and the white lightens it all up).

Introducing a light turquoise/teal color into the mix.

I'd like to add this color in accessories and the chair for the desk.  However, I'm having a hard time finding a solid upholstered chair in the right color.  I do love this patterned chair - but patterned chair on a patterned rug?  Too much?

I know I could always try to find a chair at a good cost and either attempt to upholster myself or get it done with the right fabric, but that seems too difficult.

How do you think the room is coming so far?? Any suggestions? And of course, let me know if you see a chair out there that might work for my room!

Hippie Chic With New Bedding

My navy blue guest bedroom is coming along! With the completion of the walls, I finally got to put to use the bedding I'd already gotten awhile ago!  So little by little this room is coming along and I'll show you little sneak peaks along the way until the grand finale!

It's all pretty  plain still, as there is nothing else in there yet.  Just a pretty made bed and a little new bench I found at a reclaimed furniture store (Liberty Bell) in Kansas City.  But I love the pop of orange so much!  It'll be fun to start putting the rest of the room together.

Green Skirt, Blue Room

Tomorrow is March, and I'm already ready for St. Patty's day in my new Anthro Drawing Parallels Kelly Green skirt (online available in navy).  I love kelly green.  The bright, jewel tone is always so easy to mix and makes me happy!  I dressed this skirt up and wore to work for some meetings.  I still wanted to have some fun with color, so paired it with maroon tights...

Um, and do you see that beautiful blue wall??  That is our new guest bedroom wall paint!! It's almost done! I just have to get all the furniture back in now...  I love it!  Way more on that room and details later.

Orange Bedding... Guest Bedroom Transformation Part 1

So after a great response on this post through comments, twitter and email - I chose to go with the Navy and Orange Mood Board for my Guest Bedroom Transformation Project.

It'll be a slower project than anticipated (or hoped for ignorantly), as we have some BIG things to the room that has to be done first:
- Stain and refinish hardwood floors
- Remove wall paper
- Paint trim/woodwork white
- Then, finally will I get to pain the walls Navy

In the meantime - I'm starting to collect the decor pieces!  Starting with the Orange Bedding.  I have been looking online and at stores for orange bedding for DAYS!  Orange bedding is not easy to come by.  But finally I found the perfect shade of orange (not too faded, not to melon, not to neon)...

ISAAC MIZRAHI LIVE! Solid Hemstitch 400TC Cotton Sheet Set in Burnt Orange, sold at QVC!

ISAAC MIZRAHI LIVE! Zebra Print Quilted 36"x9" Bolster Pillow in Burnt Orange, sold at QVC!

I think this bed set will look fab with the West Elm Duvet I've asked for from Santa for Xmas....

And the area rug that I've been drooling over for awhile now from Ballard Designs (and currently on back order...boo).

Remember as you're making ANY online purchases to use Ebates!  Cash back for purchasing online.  I keep forgetting to sign in first and open the site through it to get credit, so just a reminder to all you. :)

Guest Bedroom Mood Boards (WANTED: Navy Walls)

My guest bedroom is becoming the bane of my existence.  A major hidden embarrassment.  Undecorated, uninspiring and unorganized.  I love having guests and we do quite often...so this is just not going to cut it any longer!  And now I put my embarrassment out there...

Certainly not suited for a Guest...

So first step is developing my design plan - colors and ideas of patterns and textures.  I've been dreaming of doing navy walls ever since I saw this photo:

{Photo found on Bryn Alexanda's blog}

Navy walls with crisp white curtains, furniture and bedding with a pop of an accent color, like orange or lime green (or yellow in this photo's case, but I've got enough yellow going on).  I've been DREAMING about this inspiration for my own room design in my head.

Now I just have to get my husband to let me go for it.  His big objection - in the future it'll be hard to paint over navy walls (anyone know anything about that?).  I think primer has come a long way since the 80s. :)

Anyways, I created two mood boards to start this process and now you all can vote!  Please vote between these two mood boards based on what I should do for my guest bedroom space. Both contain inspiration I'd like to carry into my own space in one way or another...around navy walls of course:

Navy, white and lime green accents:

{Inspiration credits: Bryn Alexandra's own guest room, Navy wall of frames from Bryn's portfolio, RH ottoman, West Elm Mini Parsons Desk, West Elm pin-tucked white duvet, green floor rug, Crate & Barrel green vase, my own island antique maps picked up on my travels}

Navy, white and orange accents:

{Same Bryn Alexandra guest bedroom and Navy Inspiration Room, same West Elm Pin-Tucked white bedding, Ballard Design Eva Orange patterned rug, Target Orange tray, orange wall art and white frame}

So what do you say?  Mood Lime Green or Mood Orange accents with Navy Walls for the Guest Bedroom?  And any thoughts on the navy walls all together?  My ears are open - this is my winter project. :)
